Becoming Octopus Meditation 8 2020

Hi everyone,
In this final meditation in the Becoming Octopus series, the aesthetic is predominantly VFX because it’s from the point of view of a mostly artificial intelligence. It’s a speculative fiction, so for those of you who are Machine Learning experts, bear with me! I am hoping that other kinds of learning are possible and interfaces that are not only human can be devised.
I have had an amazing time visualising octopus-compatible ocean AIs! And my friend Duncan, a computational artist who has also been into octopuses for a long time too, has coded an octopus skin simulation I was able to use. I am so happy to have met all the brilliant creative people who have contributed to the Becoming Octopus journey, and to have shared this intimate storytelling with you in the time of Covid-19. A time that has amplified so many things that are unjust and unsustainable all over the world. Artists are contributing much thought provoking and beautiful work to online platforms that hold spaces for doing things differently and imagining into the future. Thank you everyone at iMT Gallery for being one of these, and for your focus, vision and support.
